How these numbers are computed

Each setup on Pingwish splits its gear into essentials and optional extras. The starting cost is the sum of the essentials only — the shortest honest shopping list that lets a beginner actually begin. Nice-to-have upgrades, specialty tools and ongoing supplies are deliberately not counted.

Prices come from real products — the same ones listed on each setup page — read off live listings, not estimated. They are point-in-time readings rather than a live feed: we re-check hobbies in rotation, oldest first, and the date column shows when each one was last read. A figure should be taken as accurate as of that date.

Retail prices move, so a row read months ago has drifted further than one read last week. We would rather show you when we looked than imply a freshness we do not have — if you are citing a figure, quote the date beside it. The same pass also catches products that have gone out of stock or been discontinued, and replaces them.
